Pine Blanket Chest with Drawer

25 x 14.5 x 14 inches. This blanket chest is a utilitarian piece of American furniture dating to the mid-to-late 19th century. The chest is constructed from a primary wood of pine or a similar softwood, finished with a dark mahogany-colored stain or grain painting. The interior and drawer sides utilize a light-colored secondary wood, likely white pine or poplar. The main body of the chest features a deep storage well accessible via a hinged lid, while the base incorporates a single, full-width integrated drawer. The construction utilizes nailed butt joints and small brads. The lid is secured by two brass-toned butt hinges. A centered keyhole is present on the front face, although the lock mechanism is currently non-functional. The lower drawer is designed to be opened with an under-grip, as there is no external hardware for pull. A separate metal rod is included with the lot.
