Pine Chest with Divided Drawer
14 x 23 x 12 inches. This storage chest is constructed from solid coniferous wood, likely pine, with a dark-stained finish. The rectangular case is assembled using large, hand-cut dovetail joints visible at all four corners. The lid is designed with a framed-and-paneled construction and opens on two rectangular metal butt hinges to reveal a single open compartment. The interior of the lid features a recessed iron lock plate with a corresponding catch on the front rim of the case; a keyhole is present on the top of the lid. The lower portion of the chest contains a single full-width drawer featuring a white ceramic knob. The drawer interior is fitted with wooden dividers creating five separate compartments: four larger rectangular sections and one smaller square section. The drawer bottom is constructed from reclaimed shipping crate wood. This reclaimed wood bears stenciled black ink markings. On the left side, the characters read M A followed by illegible text and S U. The center of the drawer bottom is stenciled with the word CAGO. Circular ink stamps are also present on the drawer bottom but are not legible as specific names or symbols.
