"Pink Opal" Slab Binthalya prospect, Mooka Creek Mooka Station, Carnarvon Shire Western Australia, Australia This lively and massive slab represents coveted Pink Opal material from Australia. The 'Pink Opal' nomenclature was given by prospectors, as this is actually a different variety of Mookaite. The Down Under export weighs over 5,000 grams and consists of Opalized Radiolarite, a fossiliferous sedimentary rock. The thick slab was mined from the Windalia Radiolarite Formation and exhibits alternating sections of pleasing bright pink, red, cream, and brown hues. The substantial offering has been cut and polished, and the main display face has lovely Liesegang banding, intriguing small cavities, and fractures filled with microcrystalline Quartz. The main display face has a high polish, while the reverse has been left in its natural state. This is a huge and dynamic example of the coveted pink brecciated material.
