CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE 'NANKING CARGO' PLATE, , CIRCA 1750 Painted with the 'boatman and six-flower border' pattern, depicting a fisherman punting in a broad riverscape with a two-storey pavilion beside pine, wutong and rocks on the near bank and a retreat on the other, six floral sprays at the border Diameter = 23 cm. The plate originates from the world famous wreck of the Dutch East India Company ship “Geldermalsen”, also known as the Nanking cargo, one of the biggest porcelain auctions at Christie's. The ship De Geldermalsen was bound for the Netherlands with a cargo of porcelain from the imperial ovens of Jingdezhen, but hit a reef and sank in the South China Sea near Nanking in 1752. On the bottom: a sticker from The Nanking Cargo Christie's, lot number 1744. In good condition with one 1 cm flate on the edge (see the photo)
