Copper matrix - Engraving plate Depicting the Virgin of Zancati. The Madonna is enthroned with the Child in her arms, blessing with his right hand and holding the globe in his left hand, with the names of the three known continents written on it: Asia, Europa, Africa. Behind the throne are two angels; above the figure of the Virgin in profile is the mystic lamb with the banner of victory, at the sides of the niche are St John the Baptist and St Francis. The Virgin is seated on a cushion, her head uncovered and her hair tied back with a beaded ribbon, her face slightly tilted to the right. signed ‘Giovanni Petroschi inc’ The plate has several damaged parts but is of great historical interest.
