Orwell (George) Nineteen Eighty-Four, Russian text, paper wrappers, staple bound, wear to hinges around staples, small tear and some restoration work to lower spine, pages toned, covers lightly soiled, edgewear, 12mo, n.d.
*** A very unusual clandestine edition, probably printed in Rome during the late 1960s or early 1970s for covert circulation in the USSR.
The book bears a strong physical and textual resemblance to the recorded Rome edition printed by Litostampa Nomentana, but omits both the colophon and the ‘Roma’ designation from the title page, possibly to conceal its place of production. No other copy of this anonymous variant has presently been traced and it may represent a unique surviving example.
