Ca. Ø37mm, approx. 46g, 18k gold, exceptional quality case, polychrome enamelling, original diamond setting on both sides, bow also set with diamonds (some missing), pendant pusher set with a large diamond, blue engine turned enamel on the back of the case, framed by fine white and turquoise enamel beads, hidden miniature button in the case rim to open the case, case with French gold punches, movement signed and numbered No.1274, verge escapement, repeating the hours and quarters a-toc, signed, original Louis XV enamel dial, pink gold hands, signed as royal watchmaker "Grignon Horloger de la Reine", in working order and beautifully preserved. The accompanying chatelaine is also of exceptional quality, also gold, the centrepiece and pendant decorated with white enamel pearls in the same way as the watch case, as well as a gold/enamel watch key of large rarity and an equally rare pendant with a fold-out hook, a so-called bedhook. This version is a museum rarity. Gold/enamelled verge watches with matching chatelaine are generally rare collector's items, especially if they also have a striking mechanism. Extremely rare and only for very special customers such as royalty or the Tsar's court, these watches were set with real diamonds and not the usual imitations. Comparable watches can be found in the Louvre and in the Hermitage in the "Gold Room"!
