PORCELAINE DE PARIS - D'après GERARD DOW (GERRIT DOU) - FRANCE
\r
French polychrome porcelain group depicting a scene from a work by the Flemish painter Gerrit Dou entitled "Jeune Folle Hachant des Ognons".
The group records in great detail all the elements and subjects present in the painter's painting.
Symbolically the young helper represents innocence while the girl represents the experience of the trade.
The workmanship and decoration are valuable.
\r
PERIOD: second half of the 19th century.
\r
TRADEMARK: the work has two trademarks; one is that of the Paris manufacturer, the other unidentified could perhaps be the decorator's mark?
\r
DIMENSIONS: maximum height of approximately 23 cm, depth of 14 cm and width of 20 cm.
\r
CONSERVATION: the artefact is overall in a good state of conservation, without restorations or serious breakages. However, it has some small defects, all of which are shown in the photos. In fact, the young helper is missing the end of his hat and the tip of the knife he is holding in his hand. The rooster at the base has a cooking defect inside the wing (it looks like a small crack, visible in the photo) .
