Portrait by a Frisian Master
(Dutch, 17th century)
Portrait of a Red-haired Woman, within a feigned oval, circa 1650, unsigned, oil on chamfered oak panel, 28-3/8 x 21-3/4 in. (70.17 x 51.44 cm.); gilt and molded wood reproduction frame, 39-3/8 x 33-3/8 x 3-1/2 in.
Provenance: Private Collection
Note: Brunk Auctions would like to thank Carla van de Puttelaar and Fred Meijer for their identification of this portrait as by an "unidentified, probably Frisian master" based on photographs. In the collection of the Fries Museum in Leeuwarden there are two portraits, Sjuck Bockes van Sternsee and his wife from a decade earlier that show similarities to the present portrait.
