A beautiful portrait of Julius Caesar facing left and wearing a laurel wreath, painted in polychrome enamels on a copper base. The portrait is surrounded by the - now slightly faded inscription - G. IVLIVS CAESAR DICT PERP (Gaius Julius Caesar Dictator Perpetuus) . It is presented in its unopened (see details of the back) and original gilded bronze frame, which is decorated with typical Louis XIV ornaments, such as "coquilles" and "masques féminins" with "palmettes" and "feuilles d'acanthe". The frame is engraved with the name of one of the previous owners M. J. GOYA. Limoges, attributed to the workshop of Jacques Laudin II (born in 1663 - died in 1729) . Louis XIV era. Late 17th century. Limoges enamel portraits in their original frame are exceedingly rare and seldom come onto the market ! ! ! Collector's labels on the back. Dimensions: H 20. 5cm ; W 19cm
