The Collection of Jay I. Kislak: Sold to Benefit the Kislak Family Foundation
Sir Thomas Lawrence, P.R.A.
Bristol 1769 - 1830 London
Portrait of Mrs. Hart Davis, half length, in a white gown with a gold sash and a black velvet hat
oil on canvas
canvas: 30 by 25 in.; 76.2 by 63.5 cm.
framed: 39¼ by 34 in.; 99.7 by 86.4 cm.
Condition Report:
The canvas has been relined and is stable. The paint surface remains well-preserved under a varnish which has yellowed and dulled slightly. The colors remain deep and vibrant and brushwork lively. Ultraviolet light reveals an uneven varnish and some old restorations throughout, particularly in the hat and background, and some in the face and neck as well. There is evidence of an old tear or scratch which has been restored in the center of her bodice, though the flourescing line of restoration is thin and clean. Offered in a carved giltwood frame.
