Portrait of Racehorse "Musidora" O/C

dated "1949" by Juliet McLeod (Engish, 1917-1982), winner of the 1,000 Guineas Stakes and Epsom Oaks in 1949. The Musidora Stakes (founded 1961) was named in this horse's honor. This painting was painted the year Musidora won her two races, in 1949. A year afterwards in 1950, the artist, Juliet McLeod, painted a second portrait of the horse, which is pictured in her book, A Hundred Horses by Juliet McLeod, London, Seeley, Service & Co. Ltd., 1960, on page 55. Frame: 16" high, 20" wide. Small area of damage/loss to background upper center.
