Portrait of a man, half-length, in a long collar, hat, and gloves, Dutch School, 17th century
Property from the Collection of the Late Paula and Don Gaston
Dutch School, 17th century
Portrait of a man, half-length, in a long collar, hat, and gloves
oil on panel
panel: 10 5/8 by 7 7/8 in.; 27 by 20 cm.
framed: 21 1/4 by 18 1/2 in.; 54 by 47 cm.
Condition Report:
The panel consists of a single plank and is flat, stable, and beveled on all 4 sides of the reverse. The portrait reads very well beneath clear varnish with glazes in the collar and highlight retained. No retouching or repairs are visible to the naked eye. Under UV inspection, the black outlines of the man’s costume have been strengthened, and minimal small dots of retouching are visible on the shadowy side of his face, like his eyebrow. Overall the painting is in very good condition and can hang in its present state. Offered in a decoratively carved ebonized wood frame.
