Post-Incunabula: Sefer Mitzvot Gadol by Rabbi Moshe of Coucy. Signed by R' Tzemach Narbonne, Rav of the "Knesset Gedolah" and Member of the Beit Din of the Maharit. Venice, 1522. Daniel Bomberg Press. A Sefer Yesod of one of the Ba’alei HaTosafot and of the greatest of the Rishonim.

Rabbi Moshe of Coucy, one of the Ba’alei Tosafot was the son of Rabbi Yaakov of the Ba’alei Tosafor. He was a leading Halachic authority in his generation and one of the greatest Rishonim. Rabbi Moshe authored his Halachic composition in the 13th Century and it served as a fundamental Halachic resource for ensuing generations.

On the title page is the signature of Rabbi Zemach Narbonne who was rabbi of the 'Knesset HaGedolah' and a member of the Beit Din of the Maharit.

The book is divided into two parts: ‘Positive Commandments’ and ‘Negative Commandments’. Rabbi Moshe relates in the book’s introduction that he authored this work in wake of a dream in which he was instructed to: “Arise and create a Torah scroll in two parts”.

The last page features a colophon: “And the work was completed in the year 5282 on Rosh Chodesh Adar Sheini by the brothers, sons of Baruch Adelkind of Padua, on behalf of Daniel Bomberg and in his Printing House”.

Rabbi Moshe based his Halachic rulings on those of the Rambam, whom he quotes anonymously. Rabbi Yitzchak of Korovil based his book ‘Sefer Mitzvot HaKatan’ on this work.

250 leaves. Exceptionally beautiful copy with antique, leather binding of the famed ‘Yeshivat Magen Avraham’. The last two leaves are slightly restored and are missing a little of the text. This has been filled in with photocopy. Aside from this, the copy is in beautiful condition.
