[Post-uprising Repression] Letter from the General Consistory of the Archdiocese of Warsaw to the dean in Błonie near Warsaw, Warsaw, February 16, 1832
k. [2], 35 x 21 cm;
Polish. Autograph of Father Adam Paszkowicz (1784–1834), vicar of the chapter of the Archdiocese of Warsaw. On a letterhead with the printed title of the consistory. A circular sent to parishes throughout the archdiocese regarding the “cleanup” following the insurgents, referred to in this document as the “Revolutionary Government.” Since the National Government minted Polish silver coins in 1831 bearing the inscription “God Save Poland,” it recommended that church silver be transferred to the Warsaw mint. This letter orders the return of the silver to the churches from the collection points. The tsarist authorities also demand that only priests and monks assigned to these locations remain in the parishes and monasteries. The government was searching for priests in hiding.
Condition: A small hole, signs of folding.
