NYANGA MASK
Old mask, whose the simplicity of form is only matched by its beauty and power
A similar mask is shown in "100 peoples of Zaire" (see Bibl.)
According to Daniel P. Biebuyck, who lived four years among them, the Nyanga, neighbors of the Lega and the Kumu,
are a small tribe whose population was estimated at 27,000 in 1949.
They live in eastern Congo, in the Kivu forest.

ETHNICAL GROUP: Nyanga
ORIGINE: Democratic Republic of Congo.
DRC (ex Belgian Congo, ex Zaïre).
MATÉRIAL: Wood
