Powers Cameragraph 6B 35mm Movie Projector

[ translate ]

Nicholas Powers was a foundational pioneer in early American cinema, best known for manufacturing the highly successful "Cameragraph" line of 35mm motion picture projectors in New York. Alongside Thomas Edison's company, the Nicholas Powers Company was one of the first in the United States to produce movie projectors on a massive, commercial scale starting about 1905. These heavy, cast-iron machines became the backbone of the "Nickelodeon boom" and early silent film theaters, standardizing film exhibition globally. In November 1925, the Powers Company merged with the Precision Machine Company and Acme Motion Picture Company to form the International Projector Corporation. This consolidated entity produced the famous electric Simplex projectors, which dominated theaters for decades. This machine is a circa 1915 Cameragraph Model 6B in VG original condition. It hand cranks over smoothly and has the variable speed motor which is not currently hooked up. The lamphouse is a Powers Type E high intensity carbon arc and comes with a Powers Inducer power supply. It also comes with a reel of 35mm film of unknown subject and a pair of Powers bench mount hand crank film rewinds. It is very heavy but will break down into components for shipping. Assembled it measures 70" tall, 60" long, 24" wide. Customer pickup or 3rd party transporter only on this item.
