Pr. of Bob McGaw Chesapeake Bay Decoys

[ translate ]

This pair of Canvasback Duck Decoys is purportedly by master Chesapeake Bay Carver Bob McGaw (1879-1958) of Havre de Grace, Maryland. McGaw was a well-known mid-20th century Maryland carver and his decoys are included in many of the major Bay collections. This pair, a male and a female, has been hunted over and retains the original paint. They have been waxed, lightly, and except for expected paint wear (minor and mostly on the female) and some pitting and paint loss on the tips of the bills (mostly the female), they are in very fine condition. Both birds measure approximately 15” from front to back and are about 7” wide at the body and 7 ½” high to the tops of the heads. The eyes are painted and any weights that may have been attached are gone. Both birds have neck splits, which may have been how they were made. A nice pair by an important Chesapeake Bay Carver.
