Pre-WWII Ambassador Hiroshi Saito Calling Card - Japanese Ambassador to the U.S.
Pre World War II original calling card of Hiroshi Saito who served as the Japanese Ambassador to the United States from 1934 until October 1938. The card features an engraved script that reads "Hiroshi Saito" and underneath, "Attache to the Japanese Embassy". The card is affixed with clear plastic corners to a modern copy of a photograph of Saito and U.S. Navy Commander and future Admiral Richmond Kelly Turner. The calling card is in excellent condition. Hiroshi Saito remained in Washington D.C. after resigning. He died six months later on 2/26/1939. The USS Astoria, under the command of Kelly Turner, returned his body to Japan. Pickup is Monday, Nov. 9, from 11 am to 7 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot, or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
