Prehistoric Anasazi Pinedale Black on Red Olla

Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Bailey Ruin region, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan) / Mogollon culture, ca. 1175 to 1325 CE. A fine Pinedale black-on-red bichrome jar hand-built with a globular body and a short, flared lip. The surface is a rich terracotta red with a repeating geometric register of linear bands and stepped shapes encircling the midsection, and 4 sets of black striations are evenly spaced around the rim. This type is named after the Pinedale Ruin, a settlement of approximately 200 rooms located near modern-day Show Low, Arizona. Size: 6" Diameter x 4.5" H (15.2 cm x 11.4 cm)

Provenance: private Denver collection, USA, by inheritance before 2000 from the Harry Tammen Family collection, former owner of the Denver Post
