OVAL, BRONZE ROCAILLE CARTOUCHE WITH FIGURE OF THE VIRGIN MARY.

Date: 18th c. and earlier.
Technique: Bronze, gold-plated.
Description: The rocaille cartouche with three small, crowning cherubs, the two lower ones mounted with
screws. In the centre is the figure of the Virgin Mary with the infant Jesus in her arms.
The robe in rather strict straight folds, holding the child's left hand with her right
hand.
Measurement: Cartouche: 28x24,5cm, figure of the Virgin Mary: height 13cm.
The figure of the Virgin Mary mounted in the centre of the cartouche appears to have been
created earlier and probably originally stood in a different context. However, as it was
obviously considered very precious, it was re-framed in the 18th century.
