Condition Report:
The panel is uncradled, stable and beveled on all four edges. It has a very faint vertical bow. The work appears to be in good overall condition, and the image reads strongly overall beneath a crisp and clear varnish. Inspection under UV reveals a somewhat thick varnish that impedes some inspection. There is some retouching to the whiskers of his mustache at right, and some fine cosmetic strokes of retouching here and there in his hair, in the shadows of face and in his costume. There are some looser brushstrokes of strengthening in the background, for example above his shoulder at left. A small spot of retouching is visible in the lower right corner. The painting can certainly hang as is, and it is offered in a dark wood frame.
