AUTHOR

Primo Carena (1910-1989) Italian painter. Born in 1910 in Fossarmato, in the province of Pavia, this artist currently resides in Milan. He received his training at the Pavia School of Painting and consolidated his presence in the art world through participation in various regional exhibitions. He has also organized personal exhibitions both in Pavia and Milan. In 1948 he had the honor of presenting one of his paintings at the Venice Biennale and in the same year he took part in the prestigious Mostra del Natale dell'Arte in Milan.

DESCRIPTION

"Still Life with Vases and Flowers", oil on panel, 53x44cm with frame, 40x30cm the panel alone, 1941, signature and date lower left.

The painting depicts two vases placed in the foreground. The first, smaller, appears empty, the second vase, placed behind the first, stands out for its size and for the presence of flowers painted in delicate purple and lilac tones. Everything is placed on a neutral toned background, which adds a feeling of calm and stability, highlighting the beauty of the simple shapes and flowers.

A work strongly linked to the Italian 1930s, exuding a certain metaphysical atmosphere and an archaic note. The pictorial outcome shows itself to be fully a product of its era and updated to the latest artistic results of the time, so much so as to show very strong affinities with Morandi's work. Painting balanced in structure and chromatic system, with a pleasant aesthetic impact and compositional elegance.

CONDITION REPORT

The condition of the table is good, practically excellent. Without color loss and with a vivid and easily readable original colour. The condition of the frame is fair and shows a lack in the upper left corner.

Tracked and insured shipping with adequate packaging.
