Prince Rainier III, Prince Albert, Princess Caroline, and Princess Stephanie Signed Cover Honoring Grace Kelly!
Signed cover
A remarkable First Day of Issue commemorative cachet honoring Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco, signed by her husband, Prince Rainier III, and all three of their children: Prince Albert, Princess Caroline, and Princess Stephanie. The cachet features a handsome color portrait of Grace Kelly at left, bordered in gold, with the 29-cent United States Grace Kelly commemorative stamp affixed at upper right. The stamp bears a Hollywood, California, March 24, 1993 cancellation and "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE" marking. The four members of Monaco's princely family have signed prominently across the right side in blue and black ink, creating an exceptional family-signed tribute to the late Princess Grace. Measures 3.75 x 6.5 inches.
The United States and the Principality of Monaco jointly issued commemorative stamps honoring Grace Kelly on March 24, 1993. The American 29-cent issue and Monaco's five-franc stamp shared a design based on a photograph of Kelly associated with her Academy Award-winning performance in "The Country Girl." The joint issue celebrated the extraordinary life of the Philadelphia-born actress who became one of Hollywood's defining stars of the 1950s before marrying Prince Rainier III in 1956 and becoming Princess Grace of Monaco.
Grace and Rainier's three children - Caroline, Albert, and Stephanie - continued the Grimaldi dynasty following their mother's death in 1982. Rainier reigned as Sovereign Prince until his death in 2005, when Albert succeeded him as Prince Albert II. Bringing together the signatures of Rainier and all three of Grace's children on a philatelic tribute issued in her honor, this cachet represents an especially evocative intersection of Hollywood history, European royalty, and the enduring legacy of Princess Grace.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
