[ translate ]

This lot contains a Watercolor painting by The Notorious "Lipstick Killer" William Heirens. William Heirens was arraigned in September 1946, where he was eventually found guilty of three brutal murders and multiple burglaries. During the time of his sentencing, Heirien was only 17 years old. Many believe that Heiren is innocent and that his confession can be attributed to police corruption and brutality. Heiren spent the remainder of his life behind bars until he passed away at the age of 83 in 2012. This watercolor was likely sold at one of the prison's Arts & Crafts Shows. Many organizations like this still exist (such as "The Prison + Neighborhood Arts/Education Project") as a positive outlet for inmates. The Artwork is titled and signed in the lower left corner. The signature reads "W.H". The work is titled "Old Houses Quai Des Grands Augustins". The watercolor is approx 7 1/4" x 6 3/4", and the total weight is about 0.1oz. Overall, the watercolor is in good used condition with no known rips or tears. The badge and envelope are not included with the purchase of this watercolor. The Artwork was obtained from a law enforcement office who worked at the Statesville Correctional Center, who knew Mr Heiren for many years before his death. Please reference all the photographs as they are a part of the description.
