Prof. Hans Flauaus (1914 – 1989, Ulm) – Transopjektiv
Painting on wood panel, originally framed. Monogrammed lower right, titled in pencil on the reverse. From the artist’s estate, directly from the family. In this work, Prof. Hans Flauaus unfolds a powerful abstract composition that exemplifies his interest in transcending classical categories of perception. The title refers to an pictorial space beyond object and subject, in which color, movement, and material develop an independent, immediate presence. 1970s.
Hans Flauaus was born in Hähnlein a.d. Bergstraße in 1914. After graduating from high school, he studied for five years at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, where he was a master student of Prof. Heinrich Altherr. In 1940, he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and returned in 1949 from Russian captivity, where he translated many of his war impressions into paintings. In 1968, he was awarded the Friedland Prize. Solo exhibitions in Ulm, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Murnau, Biarritz, Paris, and New York. Also various group exhibitions with other artists of World War II such as Otto Herrmann, Sigurd Lange, and Theo Sand.
