Proferio Grossi (1923-2000) : Still Life. Signed and dated 1979.

Masterful still life, with fruit, a candle, copper jugs, a bottle and a cup.

Proferio Grossi, born in Parma in 1923, is one of the most important artists of the Italian twentieth century, thanks to his unique style that combines abstraction and figuration.
In 1942 he moved to Milan, where he began to frequent the artistic environment of the city. In this period he experimented with various personal tendencies, drawing from the informal and abstract, until he reached - in the middle of the century - his most refined artistic figure.
His works are characterized by geometric shapes and bright colors, which create rhythmic and musical atmospheres.
Grossi is a prolific artist and produces: paintings, murals and frescoes. His works are exhibited in national and international museums and art galleries.

The composition presented here combines an incredible synthesis of naturalism and realism.
The white and bright support surface, which leads to an immaterial kitchen setting, houses a balanced series of domestic objects designed with great brush skill. The lush grapes emerge aquatically from the plate and extend, with skilful trompe-l'œil, to the edges of the image. The copper amphora and jug are of particular and evocative pictorial quality, where the highlights restore an almost tactile sense of the beaten metal. The dusty light enhances that metaphysical connotation that elevates descriptivism to a psychological starting point.
The artist's typical signature is visible at the bottom right, inside a refined cartouche.
At the same time the date appears: 1971.

The work is presented within a glossy frame from the period. A sheet of protective white cardboard has recently been added to the back.

Overall measurements: 58cm x 47cm.
