Property from an Important Private Collection An illustrated leaf from Firdawsi’ Shahnama: Rustam drags the Khaqan of China from his elephant, Mughal India, late 16th century, opaque pigments heightened with gold on paper with 13 line and 2 lines below of black nasta’liq within 4 columns, the reverse with 25 lines to the page, written in black nasta’liq, within 4 columns, ruled in gold and blue, title in red, text panel 21 x 12cm.; leaf 30 x 18.5cm. Note: Other leaves from the same Shahnama were sold at Christie’s London, 26 May 2016, lots 1 and 2.
Condition report: In good condition, minor stains, few losses to the painting, mainly on the faces, as viewed.
