Property from an Important Private Collection An illustrated leaf from Nizami’s Layla and Majnun, Persia, Turkman, 904 AH/1498-99 AD, opaque pigments heightened with gold on paper, with 7 lines of black nasta’liq within 4 columns, the reverse with 21 lines to the page written in black nasta’liq, within 4 columns, the titles in blue against gold floral scroll, text panel 22 x 11.5cm.; leaf 34.3 x 19.8cm. Provenance: Sotheby’s London, 8 October 2008, lot 38 Note: This leaf comes from a manuscript dated 904 AH/1498-99 AD and sold at Sotheby’s, 11 December 1968, lot 149. The volume was missing 11 leaves, which have partly surfaced on the market since (Sotheby’s London, 15 October 2003, lot 23; 30 April 2003, lot 27 and 28; and 25 April 2002 lot 35 and 36).
