Qajar Iran, 19th century,

the first binding complete binding upper and lower cover painted with a rose bush within floral frame, the reverse with a large gold floral and foliate swaying tendril son plain black ground, within painted hatched gold borders, the light brown spine damaged, cracks, losses, repairs, and blemishes overall ; the second binding with floral lobed centre piece and pendants on a field of gold foliate scrollwork on black ground, the corner piece with rose blooms, the reverse with floral spray, the black leather spine torn, blemishes, losses, cracks, tarnished overall, poor condition ; the five covers with large exuberant floral decoration consisting of rose bushes, two with reverses painted with singular floral spray, one with floral tendril, one plain brown
