Prunella Clough, British 1919-1999- Almost erased; oil on canvas, signed on the reverse, 112x96cm, (ARR) Provenance: Acquired directly from the artist by Leonard and Roxanne Rosoman. Exhibited: Edinburgh, Arts Council of Great Britain, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Recent Paintings by Prunella Clough, September - October 1976, no. 15: this exhibition travelled to London, Serpentine Gallery, October - November 1976. Note: Prunella Clough was an influential twentieth-century British artist. Her work has been linked to artists including Robert Colquhoun, Keith Vaughan, and John Minton. Clough has won wide acclaim for her work, garnering praise for her originality from contemporary artists such as Bridget Riley. Clough was awarded the prestigious Jerwood Prize for painting in 1999, and was the subject of a major retrospective held at the Tate Britain in 2007.
