Pskent Suzani
late 19th century, 257 x 218 cm, Central Asia, North East Uzbekistan
This red-ground suzani from Pskent, composed of seven panels and embroidered all over, displays a tile design of five large octagons and small squares that act as connecting elements. Golden yellow outlines are used to clearly separate the spaces from one another. An eight-pointed star enclosing a smaller, central star-shaped blossom stands alone in each octagon. In Uzbekistan, this type is described as "oi paliak", meaning "moon sky". A comparable suzani is illustrated in the "Uzbek" catalogue.
Good condition, backed with canvas.
