Published Greek Hellenistic Amber Nude Baby
Greece, late Hellenistic Period, ca. 2nd to 1st century BCE. An incredibly rare example of a carved amber figure of a baby seated atop an integral ovoid platform. The youthful infant leans to his left with his head following with the craned neck, his pudgy facial featured rendered in striking detail with puffy cheeks, a petite nose, ovoid eyes, and a gaping mouth as if letting out a cry of discontent. His right leg is bent beneath the thigh of his extended left leg. An intriguing figure rendered in a rare medium! Size: 1.25" W x 2.125" H (3.2 cm x 5.4 cm)

Condition Report: Repaired along waistline with light adhesive residue along break lines. Loss to proper left arm and left leg below upper thigh as shown. Nicks to head, body, and limbs, with softening to some finer details, and craquelure to surfaces commensurate with age and desiccation. Beautiful preservation to overall form.
