Magnificent and large puffer toothfish "Gyrodus circularis" from the world-famous Solnhofen Limestone. The fish lies decoratively on a large and unbroken matrix. A true eye-catcher! The puffer toothfish belong to the fish group of the Holostei and are characterised by their strong set of teeth, consisting of small roundish teeth. They mainly fed on hard-shelled food. The fish, which can be described as the character fish of the limestone, has a size of 17. 5 cm. The fossil was found on the eastern edge of the limestone deposit near the village of Painten in the Rygol quarry. Fossils from this site are characterised by their particularly good and high-contrast preservation.
