PulPul Grass Skirt, Long, Multi-Toned in Yellow

PulPul Grass Skirt, multi-toned with yellow, beige, red fibers.

Throughout Ledoux's Manuscript/Diaries (lot 108), and Field Notebooks (lot 110), he mentions these pulpul grass skirts, explaining when short ones are worn, when long ones are worn, and even the ancient tradition of pulpul tie-dying. Women and children wearing pulpul grass skirts can be seen in Ledoux's various photographs.

Similar item held in the Ethnologisches Museum der Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin, Nr. VI28114, and attributed to Georg Friederici (1866-1947), who was a German Ethnologist. He also served at military attache at the German Embassy in DC 1894-95, and was sent to New Guinea on expeditions in 1908-1910. He died 1947.
