Pygmy Woolly Mammoth Tooth Mammuthus primigenius Holocene Wrangel Island,...
Pygmy Woolly Mammoth Tooth Mammuthus primigenius Holocene Wrangel Island, Siberia From Wrangel Island in the remote Siberian Arctic, where the variety developed due to the phenomenon of "insular dwarfism" keeping them small, the Pygmy Mammoth endured beyond the Pleistocene or the Ice Age. Extinction occurred into the current geologic period, also known as the Holocene Epoch, before ultimately disappearing from the landscape. The well-developed grinding surface and extensive root structure further indicate this example was not a juvenile tooth and is rather impressive for its completeness, as well as having a nice blend of coloration, including hues of red, brown, and black over such a cute "mini" structure. Measurements: 2.41 x 2.03 x 1.45 inches (6.13 x 5.15 x 3.68 cm) HID09710052018 © 2022 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
