Pyrolusite Oaxaca, Mexico "A remarkable cluster of stout black shiny prismatic pyrolusite crystals growing in somewhat divergent fan like structures. X Ed Harrison, X Santa Barbara Museum of natural history specimen. The only locality given was Oaxaca, Mexico. Peter McGaw,[sic] our Mexican expert says that he has seen a couple of these kind of specimens, that have all had ambiguous localities. Perhaps in time a more exact locality string can be assigned to this specimen." - Rock H. Currier The world is replete with ugly, unsightly, dirty Manganese minerals. Mother Nature finally noticed this oversight and attempted to repair the damage by giving us: Rhodonite (not many good ones), Rhodochrosite (not enough, period), Manganite (mostly forgettable), and rarely, a few Pyrolusite crystals of any real specimen value: like this exceptional specimen from an unspecified locality. (Peter Megaw either knows, and ain't talkin, or more likely: is trying to find out just where himself.) In the words of author William S. Burroughs: "Wouldn't you?" There is a custom acrylic base for this unusual specimen. Overall Measurements: 4.1 x 3.1 x 1.6 inches (10.5 x 8.0 x 4.0 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: Ex. Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, Ex. Ed N. Harrison Collections [RHC #8015, acquired 2008] MinID HNQ-FDC [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
