Qing Chinese Mandarin Hat Finial Egg Yolk Glass Bead

A Qing mandarin’s hat finial has been repurposed as a bell. The finial has an egg yolk glass bead with bubbles in the glass. The glass shows nice swirls of yellow suspended in clear glass. The bell is enameled with cream-colored ground. The final bead is mounted in a brass mount. There is a copper flower at the top to hold the bead in place. The bell has an green Peking glass clapper.

The word CHINA is stamped on the bell underside of the rim.

MEASUREMENTS

3 ¾” (9.5 cm) tall x 2 ½” (6.4 cm) diameter. Weighs 3.8 oz (108 g)

CONDITION

The finial bead has a crack running from top to bottom, about 3 small chips. The bead has an irregular shape and not perfectly round. The metal is well-tarnished and has a nice patina. The enamel is in generally good condition except for one flow towards the edge (see the circled area in one of the photos).
