Quarter Plate Ambrotype of Two Confederate Soldiers, Possibly from Georgia

Pristine quarter plate ambrotype of a pair of Confederate soldiers, housed in full pressed paper case. The infantry private seated on the left wears a unique (long) shell jacket with six buttons. The company grade officer on the right wears a regulation double-breasted frock coat with two rows of seven buttons, likely with a single bar on either side of the collar denoting a 2nd lieutenant.

The consignor relates that he acquired this ambrotype from a family who identified the subjects as members of of the Bowman family of Macon, GA. HDS lists just one "Bowman" from Macon, the only man so-named in the regiment but possibly the soldier seated left. He is Private Lucius B. Bowman, Co. C, 12th GA Infantry, WIA at Spotsylvania, VA (5/12/64); WIA and POW Silver Springs, MD (7/13/64); paroled from Elmira (NY) Prison 6/30/65. No officers named Bowman either from Macon or in the 12th Georgia Regiment have been found.
Condition Report: Exceptionally clear image. Case in very good condition, with reinforced hinge.
