Quartz var. Amethyst Amatitlán, Mun. de Zumpango del Rio, Guerrero, Mexico This dynamic duo is from the find that set the standard for Amethyst from Guerrero. There have been later digs for more material but, so far - nada, nothing even close to this find. Fairly unique for Amethyst is the elongated habit of the crystals: most Amethyst tends towards stubby crystals. Also characteristic of this material are the Amethystine cores, overcoated by colorless transparent Quartz - clean purple phantoms. Most multi-crystal specimens radiate out, in fan shaped aggregates, from a single point of attachment from whatever 'matrix' there was. This specimen has two such clusters, intertwined with each other. There is a custom acrylic base. Overall Measurements: 3.5 x 4.2 x 2.2 inches (8.8 x 10.6 x 5.5 cm). Offered at no reserve Provenance: RHC #6479, acquired [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
