(R) NETSUKE OF A SEATED CHILD WITH RATTLE
Dimensions: Height 2,9 cm Wide 2,6 cm Depth 2,7 cm
Weight: 6,8 grams
A charming wooden netsuke carved as a plump seated child, smiling broadly while holding a small rattle-like object beside the face. The compact composition is animated by the rounded cheeks, tightly folded limbs and deeply incised features, giving the figure a playful immediacy despite its miniature scale. The warm reddish-brown surface has developed a smooth patina through handling.
The underside is pierced with two himotoshi for attachment to an inro or other suspended container, confirming the object's original practical function as well as its sculptural appeal. Children were a popular subject in Japanese netsuke, valued for their associations with happiness, continuity and domestic good fortune. Minor handling wear; a contrasting area at one toe may indicate an old repair.
For lots marked with (R), a 19% VAT is added to the combined hammer price and commission. This VAT is waived for: - Private buyers outside the EU who officially export the items.- Businesses inside the EU holding a valid VAT number, exporting to their home country. Proper export documentation is required to waive the VAT
