RABBI CHAIM HALBERSTAM (1882-1903), DAYAN OF SZATMAR - INTERESTING MANUSCRIPT LETTER TO RABBI YEHOSHUA EHRENREICH (d. 1959), RABBI OF SOMLYO.

Interesting letter from Rabbi Chaim Halberstam, Dayan of Szatmar, to his friend Rabbi Yehoshua Ehrenreich, Rabbi of Somlyo, asking for his assistance in the appointment of R. Tzvi of Debrecen as shochet in Kleinwardein. Rabbi Halberstam asks Rabbi Ehrenreich to write to his father Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Ehrenreich asking him to intervene with the Rabbi of Kleinwardein and also asks him to request that (Rabbi Chaim Halberstam’s father) Rabbi Shalom Eliezer of Ratzfert write to the President of the Klainwardein community on behalf of the Shochet. He also asks for the assistance of Rabbi Chaim Elazar Shapira of Munkacs.

Rabbi Chaim Halberstam, eldest son of Rabbi Shalom Eliezer of Ratzfert (son of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz), son-in-law of I. Rabbi Avraham Shalom Pinchas of Wolbrom – Czenstochowa and II. Rabbi Baruch Rubinof Brizdowitz. Highly respected Dayan of Szatmar.

Rabbi Yehoshua Ehrenreich, son of Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Ehrenreich - author of Lechem Shlomo, Rabbi of Somlyo. Succeeded his father as Rabbi of Somlyo after the Holocaust, later settling in Jerusalem.
