RABBI CHAIM YITZCHAK YERUCHEM (1865-1942) – RABBI OF ALT-STADT (Stary-Sambor); exceptionally long halachic responsum written and signed by the author, addressed to RABBI SHMUEL MEIR HACOHEN HOLLANDER (1889-1965) ROSH BETH DIN OF CHERNOWITZ AND TEL AVIV.

Responsum regarding the halachic status of vinegar possibly containing forbidden ingredients. Dated Vienna Teives 5678 [January 1918].

Rabbi Chaim Yitzchak Yeruchem – Rabbi of Alt-Stadt (Stary-Sambor); leading Galician rabbinical authority. Born Mielic, recognised at a young age as a prodigy and known as ‘the Melitzer illuy’. Son-in-law of Rabbi Nassan Goldberg of Limanov, and follower of the Rebbes of Belz, Siniawa and Bobov. Appointed Rabbi of Stary Sambor 1907. Fled from WWI battlefront and in 1917 arrived in Vienna, where he was greatly respected. Author of Birkas Yitzchak.

Rabbi Shmuel Meir Hacohen Hollander of Chernowitz; son of Rabbi Nassan David of Amasna, and disciple of Rabbi Shlomo of Bobov. Dayan and later Rosh Beth Din of Chernowitz. After WWII Rabbi in Derbeni, Bukarest and Tel Aviv. Author of Shem Hacohen and Maharsham Hacohen.
