RABBI MORDECHAI ZE’EV SCHWARTZ, SON OF THE KOL ARYEH, TO HIS NEPHEW RABBI SHLOMO ZALMAN EHRENREICH , RABBI OF SOMLYO. HANDWRITTEN SIGNED LETTER.

Letter dated 1901, regarding a manuscript of the Kol Aryeh and referring to the visit of the Rabbi of Somlyo to Sighet.

Rabbi Mordechai Ze’ev Schwartz (d. 1919), fourth son of the Kol Aryeh. Although a great scholar, R. Mordechai did not want to take a rabbinical position and supported himself from commerce. Some of his scholarly writings are published in Kol Aryeh, with many more remaining in manuscript.

Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Ehrenreich (1863-1944), grandson and disciple of Rabbi Avraham Yehuda Schwartz – author of Kol Aryeh, Rabbi of Szikso (1888), Csaba (1892) and Somlyo (1899) where he headed a large Yeshiva and was greatly respected. Author of Lechem Shlomo and 30 unpublished manuscripts - lost after his murder in the Holocaust.
