RABBI NECHEMIA SHAPIRA (1874-1942) REBBE OF SASSOW – LETTER TO RABBI MOSHE GRUNWALD RABBI OF CHUST AND AUTHOR OF ARUGATH HABOSEM.

Rabbi Nechemia Shapira writes to the revered Rabbi of Chust on behalf of one of his congregants who was owned money by a resident of Chust, and asks the Rabbi to call the man before his Beis Din and warn him to pay his debt.

Rabbi Nechemia Shapira, son of Rabbi Moshe Yehuda Leib of Sassow and Strzyzow, descendant of the Rebbes of Munkacz and Sanz and son-in-law of Rabbi Yeshaya Naftali Hertz of Dinow. Rabbi of Sassov and Strzyzow, and publisher of Chidushei Haremal of his illustrious ancestor Rabbi Moshe Leib - the Rebbe of Sassow. Devoted leader to his community, successfully intervening for them with the Nazi authorities to lighten their persecution.

Rabbi Moshe Grunwald, son of Rabbi Amram of Csarna, disciple of his grandfather Rabbi Yosef of Tshetshowitz and of Rabbi Menachem Katz of Tzelem. Rabbi of Humene (1883), Kleinwardein (1887) and Chust (1893). One of the greatest Hungarian rabbis of his time and head of a large Yeshiva. A prominent adherent of the Rebbes of Belz. Author of Arugas Habosem, Mikveh Tahara, Olas Tamid.
