RABBI SHALOM MOSKOWITZ (1878-1918) – REBBE OF SHOTZ – RARE LONG LETTER, ADDRESSED TO HIS FATHER-IN-LAW RABBI MEIR OF SHOTZ .
In this long and interesting letter, written by the revered Shotzer Rebbe of London during his residence in Tarnow (Poland), he describes plans for the forthcoming wedding of his daughter Eidel to Rabbi Yaakov Halberstam, son of Rabbi Sinai of Zmigrad. He refers to his difficult financial situation and hopes for help with the wedding expenses from his friends in Shotz, asking his father- in-law to write letters on his behalf. The Shotzer Rebbe also asks his father-in-law for a segula to help a woman who has suffered many miscarriages.
Rabbi Shalom Moskowitz – Rebbe of Shotz, a descendant of the chassidic dynasties of Zlochov, Premishlany, Belz and Ropshitz, served as Dayan and Rabbi of Shotz (1903-1919), Tarnow – Poland (ca. 1919), Cologne – Germany (1924) and London (1928). Wherever he lived he was renowned as an outstanding Torah scholar and saintly chassidic rebbe and was active in upholding and strengthening traditional Torah education and observance. In his Will he promised to intercede on behalf of people who come to his grave and undertake to improve their religious observance, and numerous stories are recounted of people who have been helped after visiting there.
