RABBI YECHEZKEL BANETH (1777-1855) – RABBI OF NEUTRA – very important letter addressed to his son Rabbi Yerachmiel Dov Berish Banet (1815-1871?) - Moreh Tzedek of Lipto-Szt-Miklos.

Family letter to his son and daughter-in-law Golda, containing Torah thoughts including an answer to a question raised by the Chasam Sofer. ‘You know all the troubles that I face, which increase from day to day, as I receive questions that I am obliged to reply to, especially at this time of the year with the halachic questions associated with the laws of Pesach...’

Several additional lines in Juedisch-Deutsch from Rebetzen Banet.

Dated: Neutra 3rd Nissan 5601 (1841).

Rabbi Yechezkel Banet was a son of Rabbi Yaakov Banet – Dayan of Obuda, and a disciple of Maharam Mintz, Rabbi Moshe Mordechai Banet of Stamfen and Rabbi Mordechai Banet of Nikolsburg. Rabbi of Setshin (1806), Paks (1824) and Neutra (1832). Rabbi Yechezkel Banet had a close connection with the Chasam Sofer, who held him in great esteem as evident from his published responsa addressed to him ( Chasam Sofer Even Ho’ezer 1: 19 and 104). Rabbi Yechezkel was known for his outstanding Torah scholarship and his saintliness, and it is reliably reported that he merited gilui Eliyohu and that a pillar of fire was seen at his grave. Among his many disciples, many became leading Hungarian rabbis. His life and achievements are described in Mitzpeh Yechezkel - Revusa Di’Yechezkel (R. Avraham Yehuda Schwartz, Tirnau 1927).
