RABBI YITZCHAK AHRON ETTINGER (1827-1891), RABBI OF LVOV AND NASSI ERETZ YISRAEL – LONG UNPUBLISHED RESPONSUM, MENTIONING RABBI YAAKOV HAGER, REBBE OF ZABLOTOW .

This responsum is addressed to Rabbi Yisrael Berger, Rabbi of Probuzna and later of Bucharest, author of Zechus Yisrael and other rabbinic works. It relates to laws of Shechita and is unpublished. Rabbi Ettinger asks Rabbi Berger to pass on greetings to his wife’s grandfather Rabbi Yaakov Hager, Rebbe of Zablotow.

Rabbi Yitzchak Ahron Ettinger, son of Rabbi Mordechai Ze’ev of Lvov, author of Mefarshei Hayam and Magein Gibborim. Rabbi of Przemysl, and Lvov (1888) and leading halachic authority in Galicia, Nassi Eretz Yisrael – Head of the Austrian (Galicia) Kollel Rabbi Meir Baal Haness responsible for collection and distribution of funds to the poor of the Holy Land. Renowned for his Torah scholarship, modesty and fine character. Author of Shaalos U’Teshuvos Maharya Halevy – two volumes, as well as responsa published in his father’s Maamar Mordechai.
Rabbi Yaakov Hager (d. 1881), Rebbe of Zablotow, son of Rabbi David of Zablotow, grandson of Rabbi Menachem Mendel – Rebbe of Kossow and of Rabbi Moshe Leib – Rebbe of Sassov. Succeeded his father as Rebbe of Zablotow and was greatly revered by chassidim in the surrounding area.
