RABBI YOSEF LEIB SOFER OF PAKS, AUTHOR OF YALKUT SOFER. LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION WRITTEN ON HIS BEHALF BY RABBI YITZCHAK TZVI SOFER, RABBI OF TEMESVAR TO RABBI YOSEF HACOHEN SCHWARTZ – NOTED PRE-WWII HUNGARIAN RABBI AND AUTHOR.

Letter dated 1910, written by Rabbi Yitzchak Tzvi Sofer (on behalf of his uncle Rabbi Yosef Leib Sofer - who was in Karlsbad at the time - and on his stationery). Letter of recommendation for Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Friedlander, son of Rabbi David – a brother of the Rebbe of Liszka and author of Tal Chaim, sent to Rabbi Yosef Schwartz, who held a rabbinical position in Klausenburg at the time.

Rabbi Yitzchak Tzvi Sofer (1888-1966), son of Rabbi Mordechai Efraim Fischel of Sarvar, but orphaned at a young age and adopted by his uncle Rabbi Yosef Leib Sofer of Paks. Studied at the Yeshiva of Pressburg. Son-in-law of Rabbi Chaim Yehuda Lowi of Temesvar, whom he succeeded as Rabbi in 1912. Author of Mispar Hasofer.

Rabbi Yosef haCohen Schwartz (1875-1944), son of Rabbi Naftali Schwartz, author of Beis Naftali and Rabbi of Mad. Disciple of Rabbi Yaakov Tenenbaum, author of Naharei Afarsemon, and son-in-law of Rabbi Eliezer Deutsch, Rabbi of Bonyhad and author of Pri Hasadeh and Tevuas Hasadeh. Dayan in Bonyhad and Rabbi of the Machzikei Torah community in Groswardein. Authored a large number of halachic works and edited his father-in-law’s writings for publication. For 20 years he served as editor of the respected rabbinical journal ‘Vayelaket Yosef’ including many of his own contributions.
