RAOUL LAMOURDEDIEU (Fauguerolles, France, 1877 - Pierrefonds, France, 1953).
"The Flight", 1920.
Bronze.
Signed.
With founder's stamp.
Exhibitions: "European sculpture in the 20th century", European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM), Barcelona, 2014.
Measurements: 54 x 56 x 11 cm.
Ornamental sculpture in round bulk, cast in bronze, in the form of a beautiful woman with a stylised yet naturalistic anatomy, running away, standing on one foot, with one leg raised, her body inclined and her face raised towards the front. It is realistic in its modelling but rigorous and geometric in its composition, perfectly reflecting the aesthetic basis of Art Deco.
Raoul Lamourdedieu was a sculptor and medallist, a member of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and the Salon d'Automne. In 1894, he entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux. In 1897, he entered the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the studio of Alexandre Falguière. He continued his training with Alexandre Charpentier and then, under the tutelage of Louis-Ernest Barrias, he participated in the decoration of the Grand-Palais with François Sicard and Paul Landowski.
